DALTON, Ga. — When a Dalton police officer asked a woman why she stabbed a man early Sunday morning, she at first told the officer, “I’m tired of him using me. … He stole my liquor. I have no good reason,” according to an incident report. When asked again, she said, “Hang on, let me think of a good reason.”

Angela Beth Webb, 37, was charged with aggravated assault after officers were called to her residence at 416 Cedar St., apartment 5, three times Saturday night and into Sunday morning, with the third time a stabbing being discovered. According to the Dalton Police Department, Ernest Cordova was recovering at Hamilton Medical Center after undergoing surgery after being stabbed in the right side of his abdomen with a fold-out knife.

An officer found Cordova “in a pool of blood” in Webb’s apartment with his head in the bedroom floor and the rest of his body in the bathroom floor. Webb had been found at a neighbor’s apartment with “her shirt … soaked in blood,” according to the report. Webb later told friends Cordova was her “old man.”

An officer first responded to Webb’s apartment shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday “in reference to a disturbance.” The officer found Webb “heavily intoxicated” and she told him she was “having an argument” with a man, but he had left and she said “no physical altercation occurred.” She told the officer she did not know the man’s last name and she wanted him to go to a local rescue mission. The officer told her to lock the door and call if the man returned.

The officer and another officer returned shortly before 12:30 after Webb called and said the man “would not do what she wanted him to.” She told the officers they had been arguing. One of the officers went in the bedroom and found the man. “I knew this male to be Ernest Cordova from previous experiences,” the officer wrote in the report. The report noted Cordova was “asleep and appeared to be heavily intoxicated.” After rousing him from sleep, the officer noted Cordova “was so intoxicated that I could not understand anything he was saying.”

Webb told police she wanted Cordova to go to the rescue mission, but since he was intoxicated and because of the hour, the officer told her Cordova wouldn’t be allowed to go there. Webb again said nothing physical had occurred and the officer asked if the two “could get along for the rest of the evening since it appeared that he was going to sleep.” Webb said they could and the officer left.

But around 1:45 a.m., the officer returned after a report of Webb stabbing the man.

According to the incident report, Webb admitted to stabbing Cordova and when asked why told the officer, “I’m tired of him using me. … He stole my liquor. I have no good reason.” She said Cordova was lying in bed when she stabbed him and when asked again why she stabbed him, the report said she stated, “Hang on, let me think of a good reason.”

EMS wanted to know if the knife had been found and Webb said it was in her purse on the table in the kitchen. Cordova was suffering from internal bleeding and was taken to Hamilton, and Webb was booked into the Whitfield County jail, where she awaits a bond hearing in Superior Court.
