TIFTON – Colquitt County High’s boys basketball team went into the Region 1-7A tournament hoping things would repeat itself from last year. But not only do the Packers know they are playing in a different venue, they would like for the ending to be slightly different.

Things started out in the positive direction Tuesday when Colquitt County (like it did last year) defeated Camden County High in the No. 3 vs. No. 4 game. This win put the Packers in the GHSA 7A tournament for the third year in a row.

Played this year at Tift County High, the Packers won over the Wildcats 61-46. They were up 31-20 at the half, and after Camden cut the lead down to 46-39, Colquitt held it to seven in the fourth quarter.

Nizarre Thompson scored 23 points, Cam Singletary 18 and Quentin Dopson six.

“I’m very proud of these seniors,” said coach Andy Harden, who battled illness at the game. “They’ve been a steady foundation for the program.”

Now, Harden said the focus is on No. 2 seed Lowndes on Thursday. The Packers defeated the Vikings last season in this same round. The winner this year will play No. 1 and tournament host Tift County in Friday’s final.
