Omega church to host Williams Birthday Sing

OMEGA, GA. — The Singing Cookes of Kingsport, Tenn., will headline the 31st annual Williams Birthday Gospel Sing to be held at Omega Church of God in Omega, Ga., just off Highway 319. The sing will be 7 p.m. Friday Feb. 2. The doors will open at 6 p.m.

Also on the program will be “The One Man Quartet” from Benton, Tenn., and singer-songwriter Joyce Croft of Valdosta, Ga.

The Singing Cookes have been singing more than 56 years and are noted for songs like “I Want Us to Be Together in Heaven,” “He Rolls Me Over the Tide” and “I Hope We Walk The Last Mile Together.” They have had many songs in the top 40 in the Singing News through the years.

Featured also on the program will be The One Man Quartet. Chris Smith can sing all four parts and sound like a quartet. Smith sang for several years with The Inspirations Quartet of Bryson City, N.C. He and his son Sam play and sing the ole time songs and they feature the singing school style of music.

The event will also feature Joyce Croft. She and her late husband have written more than 5,000 songs in Southern Gospel Music. Many of the major groups in the gospel music industry have recorded their songs, such as “Is that Footsteps That Hear,” “The First Million Years,” “I Believe When He Died He Died For Me” and “I Can’t Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand.”

This sing is to honor the Rev. Ken Williams and pay tribute to the late Rev. R.V. Williams of Adel, Ga.

There is no admission to the sing but a love offering will be taken.
