House District 175 election set for Feb. 13

THOMASVILLE — Gov. Nathan Deal has set Tuesday, Feb. 13, as the date of a special election to fill the District 175 state House seat after Amy Carter’s resignation.
Four candidates had qualified by mid-morning Friday to seek the House seat. Qualifying ended at noon Friday.
Candidates who have qualified in the non-partisan election are:
• Bruce Phelps, Republican, Lowndes County, who lists his occupation as emergency medical technician.
• Coy Reaves, Republican, Quitman, self-employed.
• John LaHood, Republican, Valdosta, business owner.
• Treva Gear, Democrat, Valdosta, educator.
House District 175 is made up of eastern Thomas County and all of Brooks and Lowndes counties.
“We have nine precincts that are in that district,” said Frank Scoggins, Thomas County elections supervisor.
Thomas County District 175 precincts are:
• Barwick
• Boston
• Central
• Fire Station 2
• Gatlin Creek
• Jerger
• Patten
• Pavo
• Remington
Early voting is Monday, Jan. 22, until Friday, Feb. 9, at the elections office at the Thomas County Judicial Center, 325 N. Madison St. Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Because the election is a state race, early voting will take place on a Saturday. In Thomas County, the date is Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the elections office.
