MOULTRIE, Ga. — A shoplifting suspect also faces meth-possession charges related to a Friday evening arrest at a Moultrie retail store.

Wal-Mart, 641 Veterans Parkway S., reported detaining a man at about 7:35 p.m. and recovering store merchandise from a book bag the man was carrying.

A store employee stopped the man, identified as Michael Cody Hatcher, outside the store, and recovered a portable charger and headphones from the bag, police said.

While searching Hatcher prior to his arrest, an officer found a matchbox in a pocket of his pants containing a plastic wrapper with white powder inside.

When asked about the substance, Hatcher told the officer that it was “ice” — a name used for methamphetamine, police said. A test performed later on the substance indicated that it was methamphetamine.

Police charged Hatcher, 23, 240 Brandi Drive, with theft by shoplifting and possession of methamphetamine.

A store employee reported that the recovered stolen merchandise was valued at $125.
