Winter weather freezes Tift area

TIFTON — The winter storm that swept through South Georgia on Wednesday brought snow and freezing temperatures.
There was some snow flurries Wednesday morning, and sand was spread on bridges and overpasses, according to Tift County Emergency Management Agency’s director Vickie Hickman.
There were several weather related accidents in Tift County on Wednesday, according to the Tift County Sheriff’s Office
They had reports of three accidents on Wednesday, all weather related and all between 8:30 and 9:58 a.m.
The first accident was at Chula Brookfield Road and the second was on Omega Eldorado Road. In both cases, the vehicles skidded into railings, causing mild to moderate damage to the vehicles and no injuries, according to TCSO.
The third accident was on I-75 Southbound. The driver told deputies they lost control of vehicle due to icy road conditions and struck the concrete wall, causing extensive damage to the front of the vehicle. According to TCSO, the driver complained that their chest hurt due to the seatbelt.
Hickman said that while temperatures should begin warming up at the beginning of next week, there are still freeze warnings and cold temperatures in the forecast for much of the south.
