TIFTON — Keep Tift Beautiful is once again sponsoring Bring One For The Chipper, an annual recycling event geared towards recycling Christmas trees after they have served their decorative purpose.

The event will be in Fulwood Park, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday.

KTB coordinator Houston Shultz said that the event, which has been ongoing for more than 10 years, ensures that trees are disposed of correctly.

“We don’t want the trees to end up on the side of the road or in people’s yards,” he said. “It’s unsightly and it can attract pests.”

The trees will be chipped up and then turned into usable mulch.

KTB also wants to promote planting new trees.

Everyone who brings their Christmas tree to be recycled will receive a free pine seedling to plant. The seedlings are donated by the Georgia Forestry Commission.

They will also be giving away a variety of fruit and vegetable seed packets, donated by the Ferry-Morse seed company and delivered by the Home Depot from Moultrie.

Recycling is also something this event promotes.

“If you get people in the mindset in one area, you can get them to do it in other areas,” Shultz said. He added that recycling is a main goal of KTB, especially with children.
