Justice, Guillozet power Valdosta State men past Lee in OT

Beau Justice scored a game-high 29 points, Clay Guillozet scored a season-high 24 points and the Valdosta State men’s basketball team pushed past the Lee Flames 93-82 in overtime in Cleveland, Tenn., on Tuesday night.
Justice found K.J. James for a layup in the final seconds of regulation to tie the game and force overtime. The Blazers (10-2, 2-1 Gulf South Conference) made their free throws in the extra period and the Flames (8-4, 3-1) struggled with theirs, allowing the visitors to pull away for their third straight victory.

VSU shot 81 percent from the free-throw line to Lee’s 47 percent.
Guillozet had seven rebounds for the Blazers. Winston Morgan scored 19 points and added six assists and James chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds.
Colton Blevins led Lee with 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting. Ryan Montgomery scored 15 points, Parker Suedekum had 11 points and seven assists and Bryce Copeland added nine points.

The Valdosta State women fell behind early and couldn’t muster the offense to catch up to Lee in a 66-45 loss Tuesday night.

Kenya Samone’ Dixon led the Blazers (8-4, 2-2) in scoring with 14 points and was the only VSU player to reach double figures in scoring. Dixon shot 6 of 11 from the floor, adding seven rebounds.
Kayla Bonilla scored eight points for VSU and Madi Mitchell finished with five points and 11 rebounds.
The Blazers shot 23 percent overall, made just three of their 22 3-point attempts (13 percent) and turned the ball over 21 times. The loss ended a four-game winning streak.
The Flames (10-3, 3-2) led 20-9 at the end of the first period and 35-15 at halftime with their largest lead being by 26 early in the fourth. They shot 41 percent overall, including 45 percent from 3-point range in the win. They had trouble maintaining possession as well, committing 19 turnovers, but scored 16 points off turnovers.
Abby Bertram scored a game-high 21 points and collected seven rebounds for Lee. Lindsey Roddy added 18 points and five rebounds.
VSU visits Shorter on Thursday. The women’s contest begins a doubleheader at 6 p.m. with the men’s game following at 8 p.m.
