- County workers began treating roadways early Wednesday.
VALDOSTA — Icy road conditions and several traffic accidents are being reported across Lowndes County.
County public information officer Paige Dukes is encouraging residents to stay off the roadways if possible.
A winter storm warning remains in place for much of South Georgia through noon today.
Dukes said early Wednesday that “too many motorists are on the road this morning, most overpasses and some bridges have been closed due to icing.”
While numerous traffic accidents have already occurred, Dukes said no injuries have been reported.
Lowndes County Public Works began treating roads and bridges in the county at 4 a.m. and will continue throughout the day, she said.
Even though roads are being treated, Dukes urged, “Everyone needs to stay off the road, patchy ice continues to form across the community.”
