Case Plantation recognized for Forest Stewardship
JASPER, Fla. — Robert Case received recognition from the Florida Forest Service for the hard work he has put into his 83-acre forested property known as Case Plantation located in Hamilton County. Case was presented with an engraved Forest Stewardship plaque and a Forest Stewardship sign which he can display on the property. The Case property is currently being managed in a way that integrates timber management, wildlife habitat, recreation, aesthetics and soil and water conservation. He has put a lot of time and effort into getting the land into its present condition and is to be commended for his efforts, said Hamilton County Forester Greg Staten. The Forest Stewardship Program recognizes forest landowners who manage their property in a sustainable manner through multiple management objectives. The management plans for these programs are written for the specific management objectives of the private forest landowner at no cost to the landowner. These objectives may include timber management, wildlife management, recreation, aesthetics, grazing, soil and water conservation and other objectives a landowner may have. Anyone interested in learning more about the Tree Farm Program or the Forest Stewardship Program can contact the Florida Forest Service Hamilton County Forester Greg Staten at 386-792-1269.

Man accused of chasing visitor with a knife
MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County man who told police that he chased a man out of his residence after finding him hiding under a bed was arrested after an early Saturday morning confrontation. Miranda Johnson, of the 1000 block of Holmes Drive, reported that the incident unfolded after the father of her children, who also lives at the residence, found a male visitor in her room. The man got a knife and chased the visitor out of the house before turning to her with the knife, she told police, and then he slammed her twice to the floor. He also grabbed her neck, she said. Johnson had red marks around her neck, police said, and her knees were skinned during the altercation. The male resident told police that Johnson was hiding the man, who was not there when police arrived, under her bed and that he chased him into the bathroom and out of the house with the knife. He also pushed Johnson in “self defense” because she had a bottle, he reported. Police took the man, who faces charges of battery and cruelty to children, into custody. Warrants had not been taken as of Tuesday.
