Christmas surprise: Man finds gun stolen from him the previous weekend

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County man whose pistol was stolen on Saturday by a couple of men who assaulted him found the firearm on Christmas Day in a nearby culvert.

Juan Corona, of the 100 block of Hall Lane, reported that two males hit him in the face and took his SCCY 9 mm pistol valued at $290, according to the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office.

The attack occurred between about 8 p.m. and 10:45 p.m.

“It was believed to be someone he was familiar with,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Austin Cannon. “He recovered the firearm on Christmas Day in a culvert not far from the incident location.”

Corona suffered a “busted lip” in the attack, Cannon said.

• Octavio Mendoza, 33, 1008 Holmes Drive, was charged Saturday with battery and cruelty to children.

• William Brandon Kearce, 34, was charged Wednesday with forgery.

• Julie Roberts Owens, 54, 1015 Park Ave. N., was charged Tuesday with theft by shoplifting.

• Ramon Leon Jamie, 46, 2029 Arkwright Road, Valdosta, was charged Dec. 21 with driving under the influence and failure to drive within single lane.

Moultrie Police

• Shuneka Lashon Rushing, 23, 1003 Fourth Ave. S.W., was charged Wednesday with driving without license, defective equipment and possession of marijuana.

• The Barbecue Pit, 311 First Ave. S.E., reported Tuesday the theft of $172.

• Jordan Mock, 1100 block Fourth Street Southwest, reported Saturday the theft of jewelry valued at $4,000 and other property with an estimated value of $202.

Thefts

Moultrie Police

• William Van Holton, 65, Moultrie, reported Tuesday the theft of a mechanical computer valued at $4,000 from underneath the hood of a 2009 semi truck parked in the 1300 block of Veterans Parkway North.

• Tommy Marshall, 200 block Seventh Avenue Northwest, reported Monday the theft of a car tag of unknown value.

• Stacey Lynn Hernandez, 29, Moultrie, reported Sunday the theft of property valued at $2,166 from a storage unit in the 100 block of Sunset Circle.

• Elida Domingo, 31, Moultrie, reported Saturday the theft of $480.

Domingo told police that while shopping her daughter laid her wallet down in a store in the 200 block of Sixth Street Southeast.

When she reached the counter to pay for her purchases she noticed that the wallet was missing.

Store video showed two females pick up the wallet and remove the money, police said.

Domingo told police that she does not wish to prosecute if her money is returned. One of the females seen on the video was identified, police said.

• Wal-Mart, 641 Veterans Parkway S., reported Saturday the theft of $149.

• Eric Powell, 31, Moultrie, reported Saturday the theft of his wallet that contained $220 in cash after he misplaced it in the 600 block of Veterans Parkway South.

• Dog World, 901 First Ave. S.E., reported Dec. 22 the theft of $15 that later was recovered.

Sheriff’s Office

• Toney Crawley, 200 block Julius Higgs Road, reported Tuesday the theft of a Husqvarna 450 chain saw valued at $370.

Crawley told police that a family member notified him that the saw fell out of a four-wheeler and into the driveway. When he went to check on the saw it was gone.

• Shontekia Bodiford, 23, 29th Ave. N.W., reported Tuesday the theft of a Hi-Point semi-automatic pistol from a 2017 Nissan Maxima.

Battery

Moultrie Police

• Destini Giddens, 200 block Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, reported Monday that a male companion hit her in the back of her head.

Giddens told police that the physical contact occurred during an argument when he would not let her leave and she used her hip to push him out of the way.

Giddens had no visible injuries, police said.

However, police took the boyfriend into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant on a charge of criminal trespass.

• Maria Ramirez, 35, Moultrie, reported Dec. 22 that while her 2004 Chrysler Town & Country was parked in the 900 block of Sixth Street Northwest someone cracked a window by throwing a piece of asphalt.

• Chatasha Jamison, 100 block Ninth Avenue Northwest, reported Sunday that a female relative broke a window at her residence.

The estimated cost to repair the damage is $300.
