DALTON, Ga. — A Dalton man who deputies say shot his estranged girlfriend on Dec. 8 and was captured in Cobb County on Dec. 12 has been returned to Whitfield County.
Bertram Gerome Beck, 44, of 902 Straight St., was booked Monday into the Whitfield County jail on charges of aggravated assault (gun), aggravated assault (other weapon) and home invasion after witnesses said he shot Heather Griffin in the right arm and abdomen in her home at 1025 Prince Way.
He is being held without bond and according to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office website a court appearance has not been set.
Beck was arrested after Cobb County police located him in Smyrna near a RaceTrac gas station after acting on a tip from Whitfield County on his location. Beck was charged by the Cobb County Police Department with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and giving false information to law enforcement after he twice gave fake names and fake dates of birth when police took him into custody.
The aggravated assault (gun) charge relates to the shooting of Griffin, who survived and is recovering from her wounds. The other aggravated assault charge came from Beck allegedly hitting a witness of the shooting in the back of the head with the pistol.
