Earned his stripes, go for the bucks

Dear editor:

I  listened to Coach Propst’s pre-game interview last Friday night. His good-bye speech was typical “Rush Propst”, direct and unapologetic. His love of family takes precedent over where he might work his profession.

Coach Propst laid out in detail his desire to provide for his kids’ education and to make sure his wife ( 10 years his junior) is taken care of financially in the event of his death.

Change in the sports world offers growth in the sport, as young coaches learn they move on, status-quo is not a desired option I’m sure. Coach stated “ you’re not supposed to get attached to players, schools, friends or communities, which is hard sometimes, but that’s the way it is.”

Understanding and accepting these facts is probably best. Rush mentioned the schools where he has made contact, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia, “my preference is to have direct contact with the team as an assistant coach – but this may not be possible right-away, we’ll see.”

He went on to quote salaries of  coaching assistants at $400,000 to $500,000 on college teams.

You go Coach! You’ve earned your stripes, wherever you go – your spirit remains in Moultrie, Georgia.
