MOULTRIE, Ga. — Hope House recently announced Makaelyn Roberts as the recipient of its 2017-2018 Stand for Life Scholarship.
Roberts is a senior at CCHS and is the daughter of Kayla Roberts and Scott Roberts. She attends Temple Baptist Church and works part time at Chick-fil-A.
In her personal essay she stated, “I myself was the outcome of a teen pregnancy. The reason I feel strongly about the topic of abortion is because my mother could have chosen a different path in life. She could have chosen to terminate her pregnancy and continue through her life.”
“Makaelyn’s willingness to be transparent in her essay and interview with the scholarship committee displayed her true passion for educating others about the realities of abortion,” said a press release from Hope House, a Christian-based pregnancy center in Moultrie.
Roberts will lead her peers in a book study on the book, “Stand for Life: A Student’s Guide for Making the Case and Saving Lives” by John Ensor & Scott Klusendorf.
“This book is a comprehensive guide to the critical issues that are at the heart of the pro-life movement,” Hope House said. “It will help youth stand up for the sacredness of human life, reach out with compassion, and grace to those who are on the difficult road of unplanned pregnancy.”
This is the fifth year the scholarship has been awarded to a senior at Colquitt County High School. Hope House developed this scholarship to educate youth before going off to college about abortion. Therefore, they will have a firm foundation on biblical truth about the value of life and be able to help peers dealing with unplanned pregnancies.
College-aged females have the highest rates of abortion in America, Hope House said.
“Pro-abortion groups target college campuses across America to promote their agenda,” the press release said. “It is Hope House’s desire to be hands on in rising up a generation that will stand boldly for God, the Creator of life.”
