Law enforcement responds to report of animal abuse

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A report of animal abuse is under investigation after animal shelter personnel reported appalling conditions for dogs living at a Colquitt County residence.
A Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched at 11:16 a.m. Tuesday to the 1200 block of C.S. Powell after receiving a report from the Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society.

They were told an employee with the agency had taken pictures of living conditions at the residence, where they had received a report of malnourished dogs being kept there.
An “extremely malnourished dog” was confiscated from the residence, police said.
In another animal-related issue, a deputy responded at about 6 p.m. Monday to speak with a resident of the 300 block of Dean Matthews Road who reported a neighbor’s dog had killed his baby ram goat.
Ricky Truelove told police that he located the dog’s owner’s residence and spoke with the man. He refused to pay restitution for the goat and told Truelove “he should call the law.”
Truelove told the officer that he told the man he would accept $150 for the goat that was worth $375.
