- Summer Thomas scored 13 points and had six steals to guide Suwannee to a win against Taylor County.
PERRY, Fla. — While most teams were enjoying some time off last week, the Suwannee High girls basketball team kicked off the regular season in style with a win at Taylor County.
Summer Thomas scored a game-high 13 points and the Bulldogs used some defensive pressure to come away with a 53-10 win Nov. 21 at TCHS.
“Our press did really well forcing turnovers and that helped us get going offensively,” said Suwannee coach Brian Bullock.
Thomas led the press, picking up six steals. She also had three assists.
Suwannee went up 18-4 after one quarter and then outscored TCHS 15-0 in the second to grab a 33-4 lead going into the half.
“We moved the ball against their zone really and were able to work the ball inside to Jasmine Jones early, which opened up 3-pointers for Thomas and Nadia Cohen in the first quarter,” Bullock said. “From then on we were in a rhythm on offense and never seemed to slow down.”
Jones and Janyah Alicea both had six points while Kalle Herring came off the bench for eight points and eight rebounds.
Suwannee had balance on offense as Omega Brown chipped in eight points. Elise Cherry had five points and Cohen notched five points. Miyana Lanier had two points. Brown also had five rebounds.
