LIVE OAK, Fla. — The Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce has been dreaming of a white Christmas (on the Square).

And by partnering with Busy Bee, the Chamber’s annual December event will be just that.

The newest addition to Christmas on the Square this year is Snow on the Square where downtown Live Oak will be filled with more than 30 tons of snow.

“I don’t know what says Christmas like snow, especially in Florida where we don’t get it,” Chamber President Travis Henry said.

Snow on the Square will kick off on Friday, Dec. 1, at 5:45 p.m. with Mayor Sonny Nobles lighting the christmas tree.

At 6 p.m. the snow slide and bounce houses will be open for the children.

Lowe’s is sponsoring Santa Land again with building activities for the children.

Santa Claus and his elves will be available for pictures from 6-10 p.m. in Santa Land.

“It’s going to be magical,” Executive Director Jimmy Norris said.

Suwannee County Fire Rescue and the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office have teamed up this year to bring Marshall and Chase from Paw Patrol to the event.

Marshall and Chase will swear the children in for duty at 6:30 p.m. in the Millennium Park. Children will also be able to take pictures with them.

The Austin Park Band will be playing from 6-11 p.m.

The fireworks will start around 9 p.m.

“Our goal is to make this the weekend place to come for Christmas,” Henry said.

The Chamber plans to expand Christmas on the Square to two full days with vendors next year.

Henry said the vendors have been asking for it to be a multi-day event for years.

Snow on the Square will be held at the Millennium Park, Festival Park and the Veteran’s Park in downtown Live Oak.
