THOMASVILLE — Silver will shine bright in Scott Elementary’s art-integration color wheel.

The city elementary school was awarded Silver status in Georgia’s Greatest Gains for 2017, announced by Gov. Nathan Deal on Nov. 17. In 2016, Scott was awarded Bronze status.

Silver status “means they’re (Scott) in the top 95 percent,” said Dr. Laine Reichert, city schools superintendent.

Greatest Gains, which measures performance in College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) scores for three consecutive years, has four tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum.

“They look to see how much they improve from one year to the next,” said Brian Beaty, Scott principal.

A “big piece,” Beaty said, is student growth.

In 2017 scoring, Scott’s english/language arts and math scoring increased from 69 to 75 percent. Proficient and distinguished testers increased from 21.2 to 23.9 percent. The city elementary school also saw improvements in all four content mastery categories.

Beaty credits Scott’s “phenomenal” staff for the achievement.

“I give all the glory to all the staff here at Scott,” he added, also noting Scott is a “data-driven school.”

Reichert also credited the elementary school’s staff.

“The tremendous efforts that the faculty and staff at Scott have applied toward arts integration and overall student achievement have set them apart from other schools in the state,” Reichert said.
