CAIRO — The runoff election for Grady County’s District 1 seat is set for Tuesday, Dec. 5.
In the Nov. 7 special election, commission candidate Richard Jordan received 179 votes. June Duke Knight, another candidate, garnered 131 votes.
A three-way runoff was possible with Jordan, Knight and Earle Jeter, another candidate.
Jeter, who also received 131 votes, withdrew from the race on Nov. 8.
One provisional vote remained following the Nov. 7 election. According to Probate Judge Denise Maddox, the vote was opened Monday and was cast for Jordan, bringing him to 180 votes.
“I’m going to keep the same plan I’ve always had,” Jordan said Thursday regarding the runoff.
Jordan added he “did not decide to be a commissioner overnight,” as he began attending public meetings back in March.
“There’s so much going on in the county today,” he said, also noting there is much work ahead for the new commissioner.
Knight declined to provide a comment to the Times-Enterprise.
