National Beef hiring to begin in third quarter

MOULTRIE — Following the announcement Monday that National Beef Packing Company will be investing $30 million in the Moultrie plant that will add 100 additional jobs, the public immediately sought more details. Keith Welty, a spokesman for National Beef, said a team is meeting in the next two weeks to finish details relative to permits.

He said the hiring process will be in the third quarter of 2018 and the expansion project will be completed in the fourth quarter.

Welty said physical plant expansion will mainly be for dry material storage and other investments will be for new processing and packaging equipment.

“We will be supplying product in the same geography that we currently supply which is the Southeastern U.S, North Carolina, South Carolina,Georgia, Florida and Alabama,” Welty added.

As for local plant management Welty said the current team will continue to lead the Moultrie operations.

In the initial announcement Monday, David Davidson, vice president of case-ready operations, said “We are experiencing an increased demand for fresh consumer ready products. The expansion will allow us to deliver on this growing opportunity,”

National Beef is committed to investing in projects that help us serve our customer requirements for high-quality products,” Davidson added.

National Beef, located at the site of the former Swift and Company, currently employs 300 workers. Headquarters are in Kansas City, Mo. The Moultrie plant packages both pork and beef.
