Pelham man charged after struggle with Colquitt County deputy

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Pelham man, who tussled with a deputy sheriff investigating a Sunday domestic dispute, was arrested on an obstruction charge.

When the officer arrived at about 2:20 p.m. to the Meigs residence in the 900 block of Glynn Willis Road, he learned David Lee Bentley was wanted in Thomas County on a probation violation warrant.

The officer told Bentley that he was under arrest, police said, and when the officer tried to handcuff him he resisted.

During the struggle part of a wall was damaged, a window was broken and a picture frame was broken.

Bentley, 39, 1429 Spence Road, was charged Sunday with willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

• Steve Spradley, 45, 881 Ben Baker Road, was charged Tuesday with disorderly conduct.

Moultrie Police

• James Webb, 30, 521 W. Hwy. 188, Lakeland, was charged Tuesday with driving with suspended or revoked license.

Thefts

Moultrie Police

• Murphy Oil USA, 505 Veterans Parkway S., reported Monday that while an employee was busy at the cash register a man walked out with two 30-can packages of Bud Light beer valued at a total of $46. He ran north.

After police were called they drove the area but did not locate a suspect. An officer found one 30-pack of beer in a ditch behind another business and returned it to the the convenience store.

• In a separate incident, a Murphy employee reported that a man and woman took three Chardonnay California beverages and four Bud Light beers with a total value of $29.

Sheriff’s Office

• Mashawnda Williams, 200 block Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, reported Sunday the theft of two money orders totaling $600 from her purse while she was in the 500 block of McElroy Road.

• Crystal Colburn, 2500 block Highway 111, reported Tuesday the theft of s pair of shoes, Samsung Galaxy JX cell phone, black leather purse and Rawlings book bag, all of unknown value, and $40.

Colburn told police that the theft occurred in the 600 block of Black Acres Road.

Assault/battery

Sheriff’s Office

• Heather Jones, 800 block Cook Road, reported Tuesday that a male companion threw an object at her, hitting her lip during an argument.

Jones had no visible injuries, police said.

The suspect left before officers arrived.

• Liliana Salazar, 200 block Hilltop Drive, Norman Park, reported Nov. 2 that a male acquaintance cut her car tire to prevent her from leaving the 1200 block of Smith Road during an argument.

Salazar told police that she later left in the 2006  Chevrolet Malibu with her two children, and that the man followed them. When she stopped he used a tire tool to break a door handle and punched the windshield. He got inside the car and kicked her in the shoulder. He also damaged the gear shift lever and ignition by kicking them.

• An off-duty deputy checking out property on Gene McQueen Road reported that a 17-year-old driver pulled up in a Ford Crown Victoria car with what appeared to be clear flashing lights on it. The driver asked the deputy if “everything was all right.”

The officer told the teen-ager that because the car appears to be a police car that he could put himself in danger by giving that impression. The officer also recommended that he remove the lights from the car.
