Perez, 26, has been charged with murder.

He is accused of killing Miguel Alvarez Esquivel at Esquivel’s 600 Tree Farm Road residence.

The GBI said on Friday that Esquivel had a “fresh wound” to his body. They later said that he had been stabbed.

An autopsy was performed on Monday at a GBI crime laboratory.

EMTs were requested at Esquivel’s residence at about 7:40 p.m. Thursday. He was pronounced dead later at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Esquivel was legally blind, the GBI said, and had other disabling conditions.

Because he frequently had visitors who checked on him, the people at his residence initially did not have any suspicions.

At some point some type of “incident” occurred and Esquivel was assaulted.

The slaying was the second in the county overall in 2017, with the other taking place inside the city of Moultrie.
