- Jordan Barela/Times-Enterprise The City of Roses RV Park, 277 Old Boston Road, is set to close.
THOMASVILLE — An RV park without water or power will close, according to the facility’s landlord.
City of Rose RV Park residents were notified by the city last week that power and water would be disconnected Nov. 1.
Steve Sykes, city manager/utilities superintendent, said the city wanted to ensure RV park residents knew services would end.
Landlord Bill Crozier said Thursday morning the RV park is closing.
Elizabeth Statler, a park resident, said Thursday she and her daughter, Dakota McPherson, will move to Cairo in a few days. Statler said other residents have begun to leave.
Water at the 277 Old Boston Road park was turned off for three days in October because of nonpayment for Thomasville Utilities bills.
Sykes said Crozier agreed to pay $8,600 owed to the city in two weeks. Water service was returned, but Crozier did not pay the overdue amount. Thursday was three weeks since the two-week payment deadline.
According to an Oct. 14 Times-Enterprise story, water service to the park was resumed Oct. 12 after being off for three days. Power, at the time, also was set to be turned off but was extended when Crozier signed an agreement to pay the money owed.
Sykes said Crozier was given twice as much time as he said he needed to pay the utilities bill.
He said RV park residents were notified about the pending disconnections last week in hopes they would not pay for power and water that would be disconnected Nov. 1.
People with hardships know the city will work with them in paying utility bills, Sykes said, but it is his responsibility not to allow nonpayment situations to get out of hand.
“Every one of our utility services has a bad debt write-off category,” Sykes said.
However, those who pay their bills eventually have to pay for those who do not, he added.
“We have worked with him (Crozier) several years, and it reached the point where he has conveyed to us he cannot pay his bills,” Sykes said.
