MOULTRIE, Ga. — The driver of an SUV that struck three trees before flipping in the early morning hours Monday faces drunk-driving charges, but appeared to escape serious injury.

Shanna Faye Valera, 30, of Albany was driving south at about 1:44 a.m. in the 300 block of Ellenton-Omega Road near Roundtree Bridge Road when she drove a Chevrolet Accolade off the right side of the roadway, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The car then struck a fence and a tree with the front-left end, rotated clockwise, striking another fence and tree with the rear end, and then rotated counterclockwise and hit the third tree with the front end again, GSP reports said.

The car overturned and came to rest in a ditch on the driver’s side, the reports said.

Valera was transported by emergency medical personnel to Colquitt Regional Medical Center, where a spokeswoman said that she had been treated and released.

Valera is charged with failure to maintain lane and a driving under the influence charge is pending the results of a blood test, the agency said.
