Grady special election set for November

CAIRO — A special election io fill the recently vacated Grady County Commission District 1 seat is set for Nov. 7.
Long-time Commissioner Elwyn Childs stepped down from the board earlier this month.
Qualifying began Monday and will end Wednesday at noon.
Three hopefuls — June Duke-Knight, Richard Jordan and Earle Jeter — qualified for the District 1 seat as of Tuesday morning, according to Probate Judge Denise Maddox.
Early voting will be conducted Oct. 16.
All six District 1 precincts will be open for voting.
Precincts are: Whigham; Blowing Cave; Higdon; Lime Sink; Ragan; and Spring Hill.
District 1 is one of the largest of Grady County’s five districts.
The qualifying fee is $54.
