State DOT hiring in Southwest Georgia

TIFTON, Ga. – The Southwest Georgia district of the Georgia Department of Transportation is holding a job fair Sept. 25 in Tifton to hire entry level maintenance personnel.

Scheduled interviews will be held from 11 a.m.  to 1 p.m. and walk-ins will be interviewed from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tifton Career Center of the Department of Labor, 310 S. Tift Ave., according to a press release from the DOT.

“The department is looking for eager and dedicated employees to help maintain Interstate 75 and the many other state routes in the 31-county Southwest district,” the DOT office said. “The district office is in Tifton and area offices are located in Lowndes, Coffee, Colquitt, Dougherty and Seminole counties.”

Basic applicant requirements are:

• Minimum age 18

• Have a high school diploma or a GED

• Possess a valid Class C driver’s license

• Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check

New hires will receive on the job training in various maintenance duties. Benefits offered by the Department include health insurance and paid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training and testing. New hires must obtain a Georgia CDL within six months of employment. These positions also offer great opportunities for promotions, the DOT said.

Applicants are encouraged to wear business casual attire and bring several copies of their resumes. Contingent job offers will be made to the most qualified applicants the same day.
