TIFTON — The first of eight dynamic performing arts series events from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will take place on Sept. 24 when the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra (VSO) presents “Symphonic Fire” featuring acclaimed violin soloist and chamber musician Corinne Stillwell.

This ABAC Presents! Performing Arts Series’ performance will be held at the Tift County High School Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m.

Stillwell will join the VSO to perform Russian Alexander Glazunov’s haunting violin concerto, said ABAC Arts Connection Director Wayne Jones. Among other selections, the orchestra will also play German maestro Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Lenore Overture No. 3” and Czech composer Antonín Leopold Dvorak’s “Symphony No. 7.”

Winner of The American Prize in Orchestral Performance, the VSO performs at a superb standard of quality that enables it to entice guest soloists of national and international recognition. The symphony is comprised of an exceptional mixture of specially selected professionals from a five-state region.

Other events on tap for the 2017-2018 ABAC performing arts season include the Neeman Piano Duo on Oct. 19 and the critically-acclaimed play “Tuesdays with Morrie” on Nov. 30 starring Jamie Farr of M*A*S*H fame.

In 2018, the lineup includes the Three Redneck Tenors on Jan. 16, the Olney Theatre’s National Players production of “The Great Gatsby” on Feb. 1, the California Guitar Trio on Feb. 15, Andy Lagrimas (piano) and Jared Starr (violin) for “An Evening at the Cinema” on March 15, and saxophonist Tim Green on April 19.
