MOULTRIE, Ga. — Students in Justin Nelms’s AP World History class built Concept Pyramids.

The Concept Pyramid project is designed to help students demonstrate mastery of a concept in a visual representation rather than simply through written expression. The students constructed a small four-sided pyramid and wrote out a four-point thesis on the base of the pyramid.

The thesis is a response to a discussion or essay prompt provided by the teacher. In this case, students were asked to describe four characteristics of early Middle-Eastern and Asian civilizations.

Then the students draw a visual representation of each of the points described in the thesis on each of the four sides of the pyramid.

This is a flexible project in that the style of pyramid can have a varying number of sides (3-5) based on the needs of the question.
