THOMASVILLE — A Thomasville man was expecting a delivery of an illegal drug from a regular mail carrier, not narcotics agents.

Louis Schofill, Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division commander, said law enforcement received information from the Department of Homeland Security regarding a package set to be delivered to a Thomasville address from China.

Homeland Security had been familiar with similar packages, Schofill said.

The package was found to contain four ounces of Alpha PVP, also known as bath salts, according to Schofill.

After meeting with Homeland Security in Tallahassee, Florida, the package was turned over to narcotics agents, who conducted a “controlled delivery” to the Thomasville address.

At the address, 1615 Red Wood Trail, drug agents found the residence of Shondriquez James, 38.

“Agents were familiar with James from past dealings,” Schofill said.

After agents made contact, a search of James’ residence was conducted. The delivered package of bath salts was recovered, along with “multiple receipts” where James had been wiring money back to China, according to Schofill.

James was arrested and charged with trafficking in Schedule I substances and denied bond. A total of $900 was found on James at the time of the arrest and later confiscated, Schofill said, adding James admitted to the package delivery after he was apprehended.

The four ounces of bath salts net a street value of $12,000, the narcotics commander noted.
