MOULTRIE, Ga. — Key Club students Chistopher Blanton (Lt. Governor Division 3), Patrick Holman (Lt. Governor Division 2), and Mary Grace Watson (Major Emphasis Kiwanis Family Chair) attended a recent Kiwanis Club meeting and gave a presentation about their experiences at the Key Club International Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
Blanton opened by describing the different cultural experiences they had meeting locals at a Spanish restaurant. They also visited The Alamo, which was not what he expected … instead of a huge, open field surrounded by cannons and other weapons, there was just one small building that represented the historical battle. He also humorously added that the group started collecting rocks as souvenirs, but were stopped at the airport by security. Eventually, they were allowed to leave with their heavy carry-ons (containing 30 rocks) with the approval of one of the agents telling them they had some pretty rocks.
Holman described several of the speakers at the convention who encouraged attendees to become leaders, take initiative and be responsible.
Watson described local club business once they returned to Georgia. The trio met with officers to plan this year’s agenda. There is a Georgia Leadership training conference and there will be five school advisors and six Key Club officers from CCHS attending.
They Key Club will also help with Radio Day, supplying at least two students to read ads every hour from 6-12 on Saturday, Sept. 9. They will also participate in Unicef’s Trick or Treat event again this year. And finally, they anticipate adding a new Saturday service project to provide even more outreach during an active week for the club.
