MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie firefighter’s call Thursday evening alerting police to a man trying to enter a city work truck allowed officers to nab the suspect.
The firefighter was sitting outside the fire station located in the City Hall building at just after 7 p.m. when he saw a man crouch down beside a Community Planning and Zoning Department vehicle, police said. The suspect, dressed in a light blue shirt and pants, then pulled the driver’s door handle a few times but was not able to get inside.

When the man noticed he was being observed, he walked north on First Street Northeast, the city employee told police. At one point he stopped at the intersection of First Street and Fifth Avenue Northeast, walked a short distance off the sidewalk and then threw something on the ground.
A short time later police took Jeremy Jerome Edwards, dressed as the firefighter described, into custody. Edwards, 35, 430 Seventh St. S.W., was charged with criminal trespass.
