- Moultrie Police Chief Emeritus Frank Lang.
MOULTRIE, Ga. — The City of Moultrie invites the public to the grand opening of the Community Policing Office at 132-B First St. S.E., next door to The Corner Cakery. The event is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Frank Lang, who has served as Moultrie’s police chief for 13 years, recently announced his future retirement. Until his retirement, Lang is tasked with building stronger relations with the community and will serve as chief emeritus. He’ll be responsible for improving communications between the Moultrie Police Department and citizens of Moultrie, the city said in a press release.
City Manager Pete Dillard said he’s looking forward to Lang leading the community policing efforts.
“Frank is a recognized leader in connecting the public with the police department,” Dillard said. “He can now concentrate on his strengths and take us to the next level.”
Lang seems excited about his new role of connecting with the public, the city said.
“I look forward to this new visionary venture as the Moultrie Police Department continues to be on the cutting-edge in building a stronger and better trusting relationship with the communities we serve, “ said Lang. “I look forward to devoting more time to networking with all stakeholders and citizens to meet our goal.”
The Moultrie chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will be one of the organizations Lang will be working closely with.
“We look forward to continuing a great working relationship with the Moultrie Police Department,” said Lynn Wilson, NAMI Moultrie vice president. “Chief Lang could help us attain CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) training for 100 percent of our law enforcement.”
Sean Ladson has taken on the role of acting chief until Lang’s retirement becomes official.
“Having a liaison between organizations and the Moultrie Police Department is important,” said Ladson. “It allows the organization’s voices to be heard so we can better serve the community.”
Other organizations Community Policing looks forward to working with include The Community Action Council, The Boys and Girls Club, United Way, Serenity House, the Colquitt County School System, and The Humane Society to mention a few. Organizations interested in working with The City of Moultrie’s Community Policing Program are encouraged to call Lang at 229-891-8382.
