TIFTON — A recent spate of burglaries and attempted burglaries are being investigated by the Tifton Police Department.
Someone took a crowbar to a door of Tift Company Trade and Pawn Shop on Woodlawn Avenue the night of July 28. The prospective burglars were not able to gain entry, according to the report obtained from the TPD.
On July 31, El Herraderro Western Wear on 3rd Street reported that someone had tried to force the rear door open, and that the business next door, Los Players Barber Shop, had been subjected to the same treatment with more success.
The report does not say what was taken from the barber shop.
Private residences were targets as well.
One residence in the 100 block of 20th Street had jewelry and electronics stolen on July 25 and a residence in the 600 block of Belmont Avenue had electronics and a BB gun taken on July 27.
Another residence in the 800 block of Georgia Drive had jewelry and firearms stolen on July 28, a residence in the 100 block of 11th Street West had firearms taken on August 1 and an attempt was made at a residence on 13 1/2 Street.
According to the report, the resident at the 13 1/2 Street address told officers that someone attempted to use a tire iron and hammer to pry the back door open.
Most of the other burglaries had similar markings around the doors where the burglar gained entry.
A crowbar or similar tool was also used to break into three vehicles.
Two vehicles were targeted at the same location in the 300 block of Park Avenue, one on July 30 and the other on August 1.
According to the reports, a crowbar was taken to the doors of both vehicles, damaging the door, door trim, window and paint before the windows were busted out to gain entry.
The report states that electronics and some clothing were taken from the second vehicle.
A crowbar was also used to attempt to gain entry to a vehicle in the 1800 block of Park Avenue sometime between July 30 and August 2, but the attempt was unsuccessful according to the report.
It is unclear if there are similar instances occurring in the county.
The Tift County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by The Tifton Gazette but did not have details at this time.
