BRANFORD, Fla. — A Branford man was arrested after being found in possession of more than $500,000 worth of methamphetamine at his home on Saturday.
According to Sheriff Sam St. John, the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Lowndes County (Ga.) Sheriff’s Office that Charles Richard Spriggs, 69, of Branford, had an open arrest warrant from the U.S. Marshals Service for violation of probation.
When the deputies made the arrest, there were four handguns and ammunition in plain view, the report states.
St. John said Deputy Josiah Woloszyn and Corporal Mike Landis contacted the Drug Task Force Officers Jose Garcia and Teresa Williams for a search warrant.
The report states, during the search, 12.7 pounds of methamphetamine, 1.15 pounds of marijuana, a large sum of money, a prescription bottle with oxycodone hydrochloride, ammunition, an extended firearm magazine and a firearm suppressor was found.
“I really commend Deputy Josiah Woloszyn, Corporal Mike Landis and Drug Task Force Officers Jose Garcia and Teresa Williams for doing an outstanding job on this,” Sheriff St. John said. “We got a lot of illegal drugs off the streets that could have wound up ruining a pile of people’s lives.”
Spriggs was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of cannabis with intent to sell, possession of controlled substance (oxycodone), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of firearm by convicted felon, possession of firearm with altered serial number by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm suppressor by a convicted felon, false information to a law enforcement officer and U.S. Marshals warrant for violation of probation.
Spriggs is currently being held at the Suwannee County Jail on a $267,500 bond.
