LAKE PARK — The Lake Park Board of Zoning Appeals violated the state’s sunshine laws Monday evening, according to City Clerk Tabatha Fowler.

The board went into executive session to discuss a zoning request.

The request did not fall under exceptions to the Georgia Open Meetings Act.

There are three exceptions to the Open Meetings Act that permit closed door meetings in limited situations: real estate, litigation and personnel.

After the closed door session, the board voted to deny a construction request by Glenn Laurel Partners LLC to reduce side yard setbacks from 10 feet to 5 feet.

“The executive session was conducted in an illegal manner so what they discussed was null and void,” Fowler said.

She said the Lake Park Board of Zoning Appeals will meet again some time after August to revisit the zoning case.
