TIFTON — When Lav Luv takes the stage at the Tift Theatre Aug. 12 for the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Show, it’ll be his latest standup show in a long line of shows, a line that stretches back to 1996 when he was in the US Army.

That was when he did his first stand-up, performing for fellow soldiers and their families in a talent show.

He’s been doing shows ever since.

“I moved back to Atlanta,” said Luv. “There’s where it all really started to take shape.”

Since then, he’s performed shows, went on tours, won a season of the comedy competition show “Who’s Got Jokes,” and recorded a half-hour special, “I Think I’m Gonna Get In Trouble” for TVONE.

Currently, he’s juggling comedy tours with hosting a morning internet radio show, “The Lav Luv Morning Show,” through Be100.com

The radio show is something he started doing about five months ago.

“Jay Leno used to say he’s not a late-night talk show host, he’s a comedian who happens to have a late night talk show,” said Luv. “I’m a comedian who has a morning internet radio show.”

Luv won’t be alone on stage.

He’ll be joined by Marvin Dixon and Barbara Carlyle, as well as three local comics: Tevin Lloyd, Robert Brinkley and Nakisha Greene.

Bringing in local comics was important to promoter and organizer Jerriel Taylor.

“They’re trying to accomplish their dreams,” said Taylor. “To be the person who hands them the key to the car and tell them it’s time to drive, that means the world to me.”

Taylor has been planning and promoting parties and events through his Big Boi Entertainment brand, but this is his first time putting together a comedy show.

“People 21 and older, they want somewhere to go where they can enjoy themselves and not have to worry about keeping their guard up,” said Taylor. “People want to go somewhere with their significant other, laugh, maybe enjoy a drink.”

Along with being his first comedy show, it’s his most recent event in Tifton.

“This is where I was born and raised,” said Taylor “I wanted to do something for my city where people can go out and enjoy. A comedy show brings out a different crowd. Everybody loves to laugh.”

Taylor, who still lives and works in Tifton, is hoping this is one of many Tifton events he puts together.

“I want this to be an event where you can go with your spouse, or do a girls night out or guys night out,” said Taylor. “We’ve got something for everybody at this event.”

Next on the list is an adult prom which he plans to break into two events: One for guests 18-24 years old and a second for the 25 and older crowd.

The show is being catered by Big Nick’s, a barbecue, soul food and wings restaurant out of Valdosta.

There are two kinds of tickets: regular tickets and front row tickets that come with dinner and free drinks.

Both tickets can be bought at Phlawless Barbershop, The Barber’s Club, A1 Foods and Phones, Beauty Supply and Elm St. Market.

In Valdosta, tickets can be purchased at Big Nick’s.

Tickets can also be purchased directly through Taylor by calling 229-472-0645.

The door opens at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 8 p.m.
