MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A Macon man believed to be a suspect in recent break-ins of convenience stores in Baldwin and Wilkinson counties has been arrested in a similar case by Macon-Bibb County authorities, The Union-Recorder has learned.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Greg See identified the latest suspect in custody as 24-year-old Tyejuan Maruice Taylor.

Taylor, who was arrested earlier this week by detectives with the Macon-Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, is charged with burglary in the second degree, according to See.

The veteran detective said Taylor is jailed at the Macon-Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Taylor is believed to have committed a break-in last week at the BP store on Roberson Mill Road along with three other men.

In the BP break-in, four men, all of whom were wearing some sort of covering over their heads and faces, used a crowbar to break into the store’s front door.

A warrant charging Taylor with burglary in the second degree in that crime was being sought Thursday afternoon, See said. The detective said Wilkinson County authorities also plan to file similar charges against Taylor.

Taylor is the second suspect arrested in connection with the Wilkinson County case.

Another Macon man, meanwhile, considered a suspect in the Baldwin and Wilkinson county store break-ins, remains jailed in the Wilkinson County Law Enforcement Center.

See identified him as Demetrius Bernard Davis, who along with Taylor, is believed to have broken into the store in Baldwin County, as well as stores in Wilkinson County.

A hold has been placed on Davis through the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office in connection with last week’s burglary of the store in Baldwin County.

Two other suspects remain at-large.

See said he knows the name of one of the suspects, but doesn’t know the name of a fourth suspect in the local case.

A warrant has been issued for the man whose identity is known to authorities.

That man, identified as Terrance Dernard Johnson, also faces a charge of burglary in the second degree.

See said he, along with Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Rod Chatman, accompanied detectives with the Macon-Bibb County Sheriff’s Office to the residence of the one of the suspects in Macon last Friday afternoon.

During the search of Demetrius Davis’ residence, lawmen discovered a lottery ticket that reportedly had been stolen from a convenience store in Lamar County, See said.

“They were inside the store on Roberson Mill Road less than a minute and 30 seconds,” See said. “For the alarm to go off, the alarm company to attempt to make contact with the store, and then turn around and notify 911, and then 911 to dispatch a deputy, they’re already out of the store.”

See said the recent rash of store break-ins in Baldwin and Wilkinson counties were planned and well organized.

“It’s not their first rodeo, so to speak.”
