Sheriff receives fundraising awards
DALTON, Ga. — Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood received two awards at the Georgia Sheriffs’ Training Conference and Youth Home Banquet at Lake Lanier. The first award was for being in the Top 15 sheriffs for raising money for the Sheriffs’ Youth Homes. The second was for being in the $100,000 Club. “These two awards are considered to be very prestigious among all the sheriffs in the state,” Chitwood said. “When you think of 159 counties in the state, and Whitfield County placed third, it is very pleasing.” The first award is based on per capita — citizens vs. money raised per county. The second is simply raising more than $100,000. “I am proud, once again, to receive this on behalf of the citizens of Whitfield County that so strongly support the Youth Homes and specifically to the Cherokee Estates campus located here in Dalton,” Chitwood said. The Cherokee Estates 2017 golf tournament is Oct. 20 at Indian Trace Golf Course.
