MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Georgia College Police have apprehended a man in connection with a string of burglaries in downtown Milledgeville.
Twenty-four-year-old Anthony Culver, of Sparta, was arrested early Monday.
Shortly after 1 a.m., according to a press release from the Milledgeville Police Department, GCPD officer Chris Powell was dispatched to a house in the 200 block of North Jackson Street in regard to a burglary in progress. There, Powell witnessed Culver in the process of exiting a house, and a foot chase ensued, according to the press release.
Powell eventually caught up with the suspect and arrested him and GCPD officer Brian English arrived on scene and searched Culver’s person.
Among the items found during the course of the search were various gift cards, a gold watch, a cellphone, an unspecified amount of cash, and miscellaneous household items.
Later in the day, two neighbors called to report burglaries at their own residences, and MPD officers matched items that were reported missing with those found on Culver’s person. Culver has been charged with three counts of burglary.
The investigation into the burglaries is ongoing.
“We believe he may be responsible for other burglaries in the area,” said Maj. Michael Hudson, the MPD’s Criminal Investigations Commander, of Culver. “As the investigation continues there may be additional charges.”
