THOMASVILLE — During the predawn darkness Tuesday, a man police saw acting suspiciously ran across U.S. 19 South and jumped on the hood of a car, according to reports.
Officers were at a service station/convenience store in the 6300 block of 319 when they saw the man lock himself in Flash Foods — across the street — with the sole clerk on duty.

The clerk tried to unlock the door but the suspect, Desmond Jamon Bowdry, 32, 1013 Hunters Chase Circle, would not allow her to, said Capt. Maurice Holmes, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander.
“Bowdry begins to push her away and refuses to allow her to let police in,” Holmes said. “He pushed her aside continuously and pulled her away from the door. He struggled to keep her away from the door.”
The woman whose car the suspect jumped on contacted the Flash Foods manager about bringing a key to the scene. Before the manager arrived, the clerk managed to open the door and let police in.
Bowdry was not armed, and the clerk was not injured in the 3:15 a.m. incident.
“He acted very erratically and appeared to be under the influence of some kind of narcotic or in some type of crisis,” Holmes said.
After he was taken to the Thomas County Jail, the suspect’s heart rate elevated. Bowdry was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital, where he remained until about 9 a.m. Tuesday.
