THOMASVILLE — Playing music too loud got a motorist in hot water when police found marijuana in his vehicle.
About 8:15 p.m. Monday, a Thomasville police officer heard loud music from a vehicle in the West Jackson Street/west bypass area. The officer followed the black Dodge Neon and initiated a traffic stop in the 1100 block of West Jackson.
The driver, Brandon Carter, 24, told the officer he was showing off his stereo system for an individual who worked at a West Jackson service station, a Thomasville Police Department incident report shows.
The officer asked Carter twice if there was contraband in the vehicle. Carter said there was none he knew of, but that he threw out a marijuana cigarette when the officer pulled up behind him.
According to the report, Carter said he and several friends recently smoked in the vehicle, but he was not sure whether any more contraband was in the car.
The officer found two plastic bags containing what appeared to be marijuana in the passenger door compartment.
The report says the marijuana cigarette was found on the side of the street where the officer earlier saw the Neon swerve.
Carter was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession and noise violation and released on his own recognizance.
“It makes us want to take it a step further,” said Keith Newman, Thomas County-Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division assistant commander, in reference to knowing marijuana has been smoked in a vehicle.
