TIFTON – With 42 swimmers in tow, the Moultrie Sharks went to the 2017 Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 3 meet Saturday in Tifton. Coach Pierre Rogers reported that 16 relay teams and 36 individuals qualified for the state competition, which is one week away also at the Baldwin Drive pool in Tifton.

In the team scores, it was another show of dominance by the Tiftarea Tidal Wave, which came out in first place with 882.5 points. Those Moultrie Sharks were in a tight battle for second and third, but it was the Thomasville YMCA taking the No. 2 spot with 656.5 points and Moultrie settling in at third with 645.

Also in the meet were the Bainbridge Barracudas, Fitzgerald Fins and Valdosta Piranhas.

There were 90 events in all from age groups 7-8 to 18 & under. Any individual or relay team that placed in the top three made the GRPA championships. The Moultrie Sharks had the winner in 21 events, including multiple triumphs for a veteran of the recreation swimming scene, Kaitlyn Mitchell, and a pair of Bells, Alison and Lanna.

Lanna Bell, in Girls 7-8, won the 50-yard freestyle relay in 38.83 seconds and the 25-yard butterfly in 24.09.

Mitchell was the Girls 15-18 winner for 100-yard freestyle in 58.11 seconds and 50-yard freestyle in 26.57.

Alison Bell, in Girls 13-14, won the 50-yard freestyle in 27.27 seconds and the 100-yard individual medley in 1:09.1.

Other Sharks winners individually were:

Skyler Waller, 15-18 boys, in the 50-yard freestyle, 24.17 seconds.

Ivey Cooper, 13-14 girls, in the 50-yard breaststroke, 41.19 seconds.

Daniel Demott, 15-18 boys, in the 50-yard breaststroke, 35.08 seconds.

Caroline Harrell, 13-14 girls, in the 50-yard backstroke, 32.87 seconds.

Jonathan Ladson, 15-18 boys, in the 50-yard backstroke, 32.09 seconds.

Mateo Quintero, 7-8 boys, in the 25-yard butterfly, 27.26 seconds.

Chloe Tillman, 9-10 girls, in the 25-yard butterfly, 17.08 seconds.

Gage Edmondson, 13-14 boys, in the 50-yard butterfly, 44.11 seconds.
