- Deputies looking for a wanted person found much more at a 21st Avenue Southeast residence Thursday night.
MOULTRIE, Ga. — A deputy’s sense of scent detected an odor that on Thursday night resulted in the seizure of several weapons, nearly $4,000 and more than an ounce of suspected marijuana.
“Deputies were sent to 306 21st Ave. S.E. looking for a wanted person,” said Sgt. Justin Searcy of the Colquitt County Drug Enforcement Team. “They smelled marijuana coming from the residence. They notified the DET and we responded.”
Officers, who arrived at about midnight Friday, gained consent to search that residence, the home of Michael Coates and Jeffery Pifer, Searcy said. During the search police found about an ounce and a half of suspected marijuana, two AR-15 rifles, a .40-caliber pistol and $3,800 in cash.
In addition, the search turned up 13 prescription medication pills, he said.
Coates, 19, and Pifer, 20, were each charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Searcy said.
Pifer also was charged in connection of the pills with violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.
