SIS offering Math Boot Camp next week
LIVE OAK, Fla. — The faculty and staff at Suwannee Intermediate School are committed to making sure that all students are prepared to succeed academically; therefore, a two-day summer Writing Intervention Boot Camp was held June 28-29. The camp was a success and SIS, in wanting to continue with that same commitment, is now offering a Math Boot Camp on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon. There is no cost to attend, and lunch will be provided. SIS encourages students to attend this important event. Each camp is designed to build student skills that will promote success on FSA assessments. Theda Roper will be the presenter at this workshop. Family of Brandi Cole holds candle lighting on 10th anniversary of her disappearance
TIFTON, Ga. — The family of Brandi Cole is holding a candle lighting ceremony at Fulwood Park Friday, July 7. Bring Brandi Cole Home starts at 5:30 p.m., with the main candle lighting set to begin at 8:30 pm. The day marks the 10-year anniversary of Cole’s disappearance. Cole was 17 in July 2007 when she was reported missing. Her disappearance left a painful void in her family’s life as they continue searching for answers and closure. Cole was supposed to have spent the evening with her mother, Shellie Auchtung on July 6, 2007, along with Cole’s daughter. She never showed. Cole, hazel-eyed with short brown hair, was 5 feet, 7 inches tall. Trail of Tears Association chapter to meet
SAUTEE NACOOCHEE, Ga. — The Georgia Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association meets Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Sautee Nacoochee Center. The speaker will be Anita Finger-Smith, genealogist for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and historic researcher. She will speak about the history of the Eastern Band of Cherokee. MADD chapter to release butterflies at annual observance
MOULTRIE, Ga. — The South Georgia chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving will hold its annual Butterfly Release at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Colquitt County Justice Center, 200 Veterans Parkway N. The event serves to honor victims of drunk drivers and call attention to the continuing fight against that dangerous behavior.
Restaurant week coming
VALDOSTA, Ga. — Downtown Valdosta Restaurant Week 2017 will be held July 17-22. The event kicks off on July 17 at The Patterson, 101 N. Patterson Street, with the Taste of Downtown from 5-9 p.m. Residents can purchase a $20 wristband on July 17 at The Patterson, which will get them a pour of a signature drink and a taste of a meal from each restaurant’s fixed price menu for the week.
