MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Colts Drum and Bugle Corps will use the Colquitt County High School campus for a housing and rehearsal stop July 11 while en route to a competition the next day in Gainesville, Ga.

Liz Savage, director of the CCHS 50th Regiment Band, invites the community to “politely watch their intense rehearsals and enjoy their musical and artistic precision and excellence.”

The Colts are a world-class drum and bugle corps out of Dubuque, Iowa, Savage said.

A drum and bugle corps is basically a specialized marching band consisting of only brass, percussion, and color guard members from the ages of 15-22, though there are some with younger and some with older members, she said.

“Corps are not associated with any schools and operate as independent organizations,” she said. “These groups all compete in a tour that is a series of more than 100 competitions that take place all across our country throughout June, July, and August. This tour comes to a conclusion at the Drum Corps International World Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

“Drum Crops International (DCI) is basically the NFL of the marching arts,” Savage said.

There are approximately 30 active and competitive World Class drum and bugle corps from all over the country.

The Colts Drum and Bugle Corps are under the direction of Director Vicki MacFarlane. Their 2017 competitive field show is titled “Both Sides Now.”

The Colts have consistently placed in finals at World Championships and continue to push the envelope as a competitive corps, Savage said.
