Reid said HCSO Deputy Tony McKire responded to a request for help.

According to Reid, the driver, William Douglas Anderson, 36, was traveling on County Road 143 towards Interstate 75 on ramp as McKire approached him from the other direction.

Reid said Anderson attempted to hit the deputy’s vehicle head-on.

According to Reid, McKire swerved but Anderson’s vehicle struck the driver’s side door pinning him in.

Reid said McKire had to be extricated and was transported to South Georgia Medical Center with a possible concussion and a cut on the forehead.

“I think he will be alright but they are still testing to make sure everything is okay,” Reid said.

According to Reid, Anderson was transported to Shands of Live Oak with minor cuts and scraps.

Reid said Anderson has an address in Lake City but believes he is now living in Jasper.

Anderson is being charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
