MOULTRIE, Ga. — A reportedly armed domestic violence suspect escaped on Sunday from pursuing police, who heard five gunshots fired from the area where he went into some woods.
Police responded at about 2:14 a.m. to the 700 block of Ninth Avenue Southeast to a report of an argument. Myquesha Spradley told police that she and her boyfriend had been in a fight and that he was going to get a gun and then ran into the wooded area near the residence.
An officer heard two shots fired, then another three shots from the wooded area. A second officer spotted the suspect running down Eighth Street Southeast and into a wooded area, police said.
The Moultrie officers, who were assisted by sheriff’s deputies, were unable to locate the suspect, and after about an hour the search was called off.
Spradley reported that her boyfriend had choked her until she passed out. During the fight she fell, bumping her forehead, and hurt her hand trying to break her fall.
A witness told police that she saw Spradley choked until she lost consciousness. A second witness thought that the man had choked Spradley to death, police said.
