Jennings to host 4th of July celebration early
JENNINGS, Fla. — The Town of Jennings is hosting its 4th of July Celebration on Friday, June 30, at Cunningham Park, located off U.S. Highway 41. The celebration starts at 5 p.m. with bounce houses, food vendors and fire trucks. The fireworks will begin at dark. The fireworks are sponsored by Prism Fireworks and TNT Fireworks.
Crisis center receives grant
DALTON, Ga. — The Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center has received a $2,250 grant from the Home Depot Foundation. The purpose of the center is to end violence in the home by providing shelter, advocacy and support to survivors while working in the community to change attitudes, beliefs and behaviors. “Our agency is honored to have been chosen as a recipient of this award from the Home Depot Foundation,” said Katora Printup, executive director of the center. “This donation will assist our agency with repairs and maintenance that are currently needed for our domestic violence emergency shelter.” The center provides emergency services 24 hours a day/seven days a week to victims of domestic violence. The emergency shelter hotline number is (706) 278-6595. The primary service area includes Whitfield, Murray and Gordon counties. The center is a partner agency of the United Way of Northwest Georgia.
Ag museum sets summer hours
TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will move to its annual summer operating schedule beginning July 1. Museum Director Garrett Boone said the Historic Village, Art Gallery, and Museum will be open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission will be $7 for adults, $6 for senior adults, $4 for children five years old and up, and free to children four and under. The Museum, Art Gallery, Historic Village and Vulcan Steam Train will be open each Saturday in July from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for children five years old and up and free to children four and under. ABAC students receive free admission with a student ID. The administrative offices will remain open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. during July. EMA Lowndes to host hurricane planning meeting
VALDOSTA – As a way to prepare for hurricane season, EMA Lowndes is hosting a public meeting highlighting hurricane safety. Every year, public safety officials meet to update plans, evaluate resources, share contacts and consider the outlook for the season at hand, according to the EMA Lowndes Facebook page. This year, it was decided to include the public in this meeting. Additional information will be discussed regarding preparedness, sheltering, evacuation impacts, donations, volunteer opportunities and pet safety. The meeting will be held June 29 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Rainwater Conference Center.
