MOULTRIE – As part of the annual “Keep It Alive” Community Day taking place Saturday, July 1, at the Northwest Recreation Complex, Oakland Raiders wide receiver Seth Roberts is making an appearance to give back to the town he calls home.

Roberts, in 2016, completed his third season – second as an active player – in the Raiders organization. His journey to the Bay Area began in Moultrie, where family still resides, including parents Ronnie and Jill Roberts and Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Singletary.

Though born in Colquitt County, Roberts attending high school in Tallahassee, Fla., (Maclay Prep). From there, he played junior college football in Mississippi and later at West Alabama, where he was All Gulf South Conference.

All of this without having stars next to his name as a recruit.

Not only that, Roberts does not have draft status with the National Football League. As a rookie free agent in 2014, Roberts signed with the Raiders only to be waived in August that same year. But Oakland retained him two days later for the practice squad.

In December 2014, Roberts signed a reserve/future free agent deal, and his career took off from there. For the last two seasons he’s played in every game for the Raiders with 11 starts. He has 70 catches for 877 yards and 10 touchdowns. Three of those scores won games for the Raiders.

For that last reason, Roberts has the nickname “Mr. Clutch.”

He’s also known for humility and charitable work in Oakland, visiting children’s hospitals and schools and participating in NFL Play 60 events that promote physical activity and teach football fundamentals.

“I am blessed to be able to give back to my hometown community which taught me so much growing up,” said Roberts. “It is always a good time coming home. I am excited about the opportunity to get involved with Community Day, engaging with my old neighbors, telling my story, and inspiring the kids and athletes. My family and I will be grilling food, handing out prizes, and bringing everyone together as one.”

Beginning around 11 a.m. to about 5 p.m., Roberts will be handing out stuff hot off the grill,  ice cream and water to those in the neighborhood as a part of Community Day near Shaw Gym and surrounding blocks. He will also be giving away Raiders gifts, taking photos and signing autographs.

“Keep It Alive 2017” is a day of fun for the whole family with free bounce houses, face painting, dance shows and games.
