MOULTRIE – Weather permitting – and that’s a huge factor considering the 60 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms for Saturday all week – the Moultrie Sharks Georgia Games swim meet takes place this Saturday at the SW Memorial Pool.
“The Sharks are anticipating some great performances in their home pool as they prepare for the GRPA District and State competition in July,” said coach Pierre Rogers. “The SW Memorial pool has always been a place that brings out the best in area swimmers.”
Ten teams are scheduled to attend with 274 swimmers from Georgia and Florida, according to Rogers. The morning session with the younger swimmers will begin at 9 and the afternoon session for ages 11 & up will start at 1.
There are 78 events in all, and the teams visiting are from Tifton, Thomasville, Fitzgerald, Bainbridge, Vidalia, Valdosta, and the Florida contingents from Suwanee, Columbia and Marianna.
As for what impact the weather conditions would have, Moultrie is forecasted to have an 80 percent chance of storms today (Friday) and the 60 percent chance on Saturday. Coaches said Thursday the lifeguards are to clear the pool when they hear thunder with a mandatory wait time before allowing swimming to continue. The coaches also said there are lightning detectors in the area.
